Filson History Inspires Fellowship

I was one of four artists lucky enough to be selected to receive a History Inspires Fellowship from the Filson Historical Society in 2024. I spent some time doing research at the Filson's research library and on-line archives. I was able to use photographs and other items from their collections to inspire me to create some art.

Here is what I made:

We Went to the Movies

This movie was created in collaboration with young people who came to the Filson in the summer of 2024 during their Cultural Pass days. They helped me bring to life passages from the diary of John Mason Brown (1900-1969), who wrote in his diary about attending movies in downtown Louisville when he was a teenager.

Ivey's Earthview

Ivey Watkins Cousins created a detail photographic record of central Louisville between 1959-1963. I edited his photographs with some audio that he recorded in which he talked about his process.

A Few Things I Noticed at the Filson Historical Society

Here is some stop motion I made at the Filson. I used some out-take audio from "We Went to the Movies" as the soundtrack.
